Koh Phi Phi - Beaches and Activities

Dreamy Beaches at Koh Phi Phi
Koh Phi Phi is famous for its beautiful beaches and coves that have settled around the island. The real boom of the island group was in 1999, after the film "The Beach"was filmed there. The Phi Phi Islands are part of the Noppharat Thara Marine National Park. The proximity to many wonderful dive spots and the many good dive schools that have settled on the island of Koh Phi Phi make it a favorite destination of scuba diving in southern Thailand, comparable with Koh Tao.

But also for snorkeling on the coral reefs the numerous islands invites. The island group consists of Phi Phi Don, Phi Phi Ley, Koh Phai (Bamboo Island) and Koh Yung (Mosquito Island). Towering out of the water craggy limestone rocks by weathering and the forces of nature shaped bizarrely, are typical of the islands. The rocks are continued under the water and thus results in a fantastic living space with caves and other hiding places for a variety of aquatic species that make each dive unique. What the islands a little disturbing, are the amounts of day-trippers, who come every day from Krabi, Koh Lanta or Phuket to visit the islands.

The Phi Phi Islands as popular Daytrip target

From 9 o`clock in the morning the first boats come and bring crowds of people. In particular, the tourists who stay at the beach of Loh Dalam or Tonsai Bay, feel more often disturbed by the day visitors. At the afternoon it will be quiet when all the tour boats leave the docks against 14 o`clock and bring the visitors back. Of the devastating tsunami in 2004 is nothing more to see, everything has been rebuilt and trimmed for the tourism and some very nice Accomodations like Hotels, Resorts and Bungalows were built. The best way to achieve Koh Phi Phi is to fly from Bangkok to Phuket, and then by Ferry.
It is also possible to take a bus from Bangkok to Krabi or Phuket.

Ton Sai Bay
Ton Sai Bay
This is the beach where the boats come in the morning. There usually exists a lot of traffic on land and at sea and for those who seek rest and relaxation it is necessarily not the best place on Koh Phi Phi. The center of the beach is really beautiful, and it would be a very nice place if there where no speed boats and ferries. Just behind the beach starts Ton Sai Village, a small town that actually nourishes the whole island from there selling things like sunglasses, shirts, jewelry, backpacks and everything else of purchasable goods.

There are also the most dive centers and tourist information. From here you can
book day trips to the surrounding ilands or otherwise. At the west
end of the beach there are several bungalow resorts and hotels.

Loh Dalam Beach
Only a few minutes walk from Ton Sai Bay this slightly curving bay lies with white powder sand that ends in turquoise waters. The beach is in close proximity to the Ton Sai Bay, so it is also increasing by day trippers. There are numerous restaurants, bars and accommodations near the beach. Who likes to eat fresh seafood or fish is here determined the right. At low tide the water goes back quite far and swimming is limited then.

Long Beach
Long Beach
The approximately 1-kilometer-long beach is close to Tonsai Bay. It is very suitable for swimming because the water is deeper faster than the other beaches. From here you can enjoy a splendid view of Koh Phi Phi Ley, where the famous Maya Beach is located. Behind the beach and the hills are numerous bungalows and hotels. Sometimes you can stay here quite inexpensive. For young people it is particularly interesting, given the close proximity of the famous Reggae Pub, the Hippies Bar and other party venues.

Laem Thong Beach
This beach is also known as the luxury Beach and you'll find some very exclusive hotels here. The palm-lined, 600 meters long beach with fine sand and clear water is great for snorkeling and swimming. It is located in the north of the island and it's quiet and you can relax.
